Hello, my name is Mary Vause, and I am an educator because I want to make a difference in my students' lives. I recently completed my Master of Arts in Elementary Education at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA, and I am eligible to teach grades PreK-6 in the state of Virginia.

Before studying at William & Mary, I worked for a year-and-a-half as a teacher assistant at two Title I elementary schools. Prior to that experience, I worked as an education and community reporter in Williamsburg and in northern Virginia. In May 2005, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia, with a double major in English and Women's Studies.

I completed my student teaching in a kindergarten/first-grade multi-age classroom at Greenwood Elementary in Newport News. Greenwood has more than 600 students in grades K-5, making it one of the largest elementary schools in Newport News. There are 22 students in my student teaching classroom, including three gifted students and two students with intervention plans. The school, which has a free and reduced lunch rate of about 50%, is currently classified as "Title I Targeted" and is expected to go to full Title I next year. The school is very diverse, and African-American, Caucasian, and Hispanic are the most common ethnicities. Located near Ft. Eustis, the school serves many military families. In addition to student teaching in the K/1 multi-age classroom at Greenwood, I have observed classes at every grade level. I have also taught lessons in a fourth-grade class at Greenwood, a fourth-grade class at D.J. Montague Elementary (in Williamsburg, VA), and a second-grade summer school class at Norge Elementary (also in Williamsburg, VA).

I created this website to share information about my qualifications as a teacher. Please select links from the menu on the left to learn more about my content knowledge, ability to plan, teaching skills, assessment/evaluation experience, classroom management skills, etc. I have attached interesting artifacts to demonstrate how I have met professional competencies as an educator. You are also welcome to look at my resume and my personal educational philosophy.
